Program Overview
In this one-day workshop, participants will apply strategic planning discussion frameworks that integrate Appreciative Inquiry (AI) and focus on the strengths and life-giving forces both of individual employees and their organisation.
Focusing on strengths means that conversations will examine what an individual or organisation is doing right, what skills could be enhanced, and what is compelling to stakeholders in the success of the individual or organisation. Stakeholders can be customers, fellow employees, shareholders, board members, suppliers, volunteers and communities that the individual or organisation impacts.
Principles for running a 4-day organisation-wide AI Summit will be presented. In this workshop, however, participants will spend more time actively engaged in AI Coaching sessions working one-on-one. They will also learn how to apply SOAR, which stands for Strengths, Opportunities, Aspirations, and Results, using a 5-I approach. The 5-I stands for Initiate (choosing to SOAR), Imagine (asking the SOAR questions), Innovate (creating a shared vision), and Inspire (designing the strategic initiatives). Both AI Coaching and 5-I SOAR approaches to transformation are based on the deceptively simple premise that individuals and organisations grow in the direction of what they repeatedly ask questions about and focus their attention on.
Case studies will be used to illustrate how both AI Coaching and SOAR have been used in different performance environments in as little as 30-60 minute time periods and as part of two hour meetings.
